Homeschool Statistics in the United States

Homeschool Statistics in the United States

Public schools may offer help with books, but if that's not what you're looking for, try a Christian School. We got a lot of Christian based school books from the Lutheran School our children used to go to.

While homeschooling statistics are hard to find we have found a few
statistics on homeschool. Last year approximately 1.1 million children were home
schooled in the United States. The number is growing every year. To
view this full report click here. This
study is provided by The National Center for Education. This is a great
site for information because it is offered through a government agency.
The National Center for Education did another study which shows the
characteristics of homeschool families. In general the parents who home
school had higher levels of education. The average income of homeschool
families vs. non-homeschool families were the same. To read the full

Budgeting for a Math Lesson

Budgeting for a Math Lesson

Our kids were blessed with a lot of money for Christmas. So we did some Math and Budgeting today, for school. First, I taught them what tithe meant and we went through many examples of tithe (10% of 1.00=$.10, 10% of $3.00=$.30, etc.). Then I had them write in a book they made, What they received, how much is tithe, how much is left over. Then they made two lists: Things they need (tights, etc.), Things they want (to go to the movies). Also, I had them write down how much it costs, if they knew, so they could budget more efficiently.

One Homeschooler Mom Wrote-Behind the Mask: What 'The Phantom of the Opera' Taught Us

One Homeschooler Mom Wrote-Behind the Mask: What 'The Phantom of the Opera' Taught Us

by Amy Hollingsworth

The great thing about following your child's interests is that they are
infinitely more interesting than anything you could dream up on your own. I'm
not exactly the spontaneous type. I like my ducks in a row (a really, really
straight row). The only thing I like better than making a list is crossing
things off that list. But what I've found is that if I rein in my compulsiveness
a bit, my children lead me to heights my list would never permit me to go.
That's how our love affair with "The Phantom of the Opera" began.
It was a
casual affair at first. My son Jonathan, then 6, was introduced to the infamous
Opera Ghost through PBS' "Wishbone." Since all I knew about the story was that
there was a mask involved, we searched out more information on the Internet.

Too Cold Outside?

Too Cold Outside?

Why not shop online with your kids and count it for school. If they're old enough teach them how to turn on/off pop-up blocker. How to protect your computer, so people don't steal your identity. What a secure website has in the address bar (https), an s at the end means it's secure. Myspace, Facebook safety: DO NOT click on any games or pop-up (ie hit the smiley face and win a free ring tone). Hackers use those to get into your computer and steal banking, credit card, etc information. Need a hardwire firewall? Everybody does. A hacker would have to be virtually in your house, at your computer, to steal your personal information online with this hardwire firewall.
May God Bless you all in Jesus Christ's Precious Name. Amen.

Christmas Vacation

Christmas Vacation

Well, we weren't able to go to Kohl's like planned. It wasn't the Lord Will. It was snowing outside a lot and very slick, my husband said, on his way home from work.
My husband also said, "Don't worry about the missed school hours, we'll make them up, (Lord Willing). He also said, "It's the week of Christmas it's okay if we don't get a lot of school done."

Lifeskills/shopping for Math/School

Lifeskills/shopping for Math/School

I am looking forward to going shopping with some of our kids, tonight, for Frances' Birthday Present. Yes, I also plan to count it for school. Kohl's, Lord Willing, is the store of our choice. Better quality, lots of discounts, and discounts upon discounts, plus Kohl's Cash for every $50 spent between now and Dec. 24, 2008. That includes Math and exercise.
Frances plans to stay home with my husband and do school.

Plans for this week

Plans for this week

Some of my homeschooling plans are to help our kids practice with their Christmas Program/Play.

There are some important parts of homeschooling. 1)Make it fun. 2)Grade your kids on workbooks. (if you want them to go to college). 3)Have your kids sit down for schooling a certain amount of time a day/week to get work done. 4)Balance.
I am working on this. It's my husband and my 2nd year of homeschooling. I believe that with every year, things get easier/better. Jesus Christ is definetly helping us to homeschool.
Somedays our kids sit at their desks. Other days our kids go shopping and we count that as Math/Lifeskills. Sometimes they cook/bake and that counts as Science/Math/Health.

More about Homeschooling

More about Homeschooling

We use some books, do a little on the computer, and make up most of our curriculum. Such as I write our children's math problems, but now I'm starting to let them write their own sometimes. Our 2nd and 3rd grader use a spelling workbook, but I also give them words to work on that may not be in their workbook.
For more information on what I use contact me.

3) Understanding Homeschool Laws:
It is very important to know and stay within the laws and requirements of your state or region.

4) Choosing a Support Group:
Meeting together with other homeschoolers can be helpful, but finding a support group can sometimes be difficult. It often takes patience to find the right match for your family. Generally, support groups offer encouragement and help along the way. They can help with choosing curriculum, record keeping, meeting the state laws, and providing opportunities and activities for your students.
